The runners-up in the Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifying group have been drawn to face the winners of the Asian Football Confederation play-off.

Mick McCarthy's men will have to leave Europe if they end up second to Portugal or Holland in Group Two following today's draw at FIFA's headquarters in Zurich.

Asian qualifying is still in the early stages of the second phase of qualifying which is comprised of two groups of five.

Each group winner secures a World Cup place, but the runners-up must then fight it out for a chance to face the European Group Two runner-up.

England will face a two-legged play-off against either Belarus or Ukraine if they need a play-off to reach next year's World Cup finals in Japan and Korea.

The draw paired whoever finishes second in Group Nine - likely to be England should they not beat Germany tomorrow - with the runners-up of Group Five.

If Scotland do not beat Belgium and win Group Six, they face a play-off against the Group Three runners-up.

Denmark lead Group Three on 15 points, with the Czech Republic and Bulgaria on 14 points.
