While euro zone retail sales rose by 1 per cent in October from a year earlier, Ireland had the sharpest rise with 9.6 per cent, the EU's Eurostat office said today.
According to Eurostat Ireland showed the fastest retail sales growth at 9.6 per cent followed by Belgium on 7.1 per cent and Sweden on 5.1 per cent.
In the euro zone food, drink and tobacco sales were up 1.2 per cent in October from a year earlier, with textiles, clothing and footwear up 0.2 per cent and household goods up 3.0 per cent, it said.
There were falls in Germany of 1.4 per cent, and Denmark and Spain both felf 0.1 per cent.
