An Iraqi militant group said it beheaded an Iraqi man it accused of collaborating with US forces and posted pictures of the killing on the Internet.

The Army of Ansar al-Sunna said in a statement posted on its Web site today it had captured the man in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul where he was working at a U.S. base.

The site showed a photograph of the man with his throat slit but an attached video tape could not be immediately accessed.

"The mujahideen in the city of Mosul succeeded in capturing a weak-willed individual living off the blood of the mujahideen who was recruited as a crusader spy by the American forces," said the statement dated today.

It was not possible to authenticate the statement or the photographs which also showed the man kneeling in front of masked gunmen and a black banner bearing the group's name.

The Army of Ansar al-Sunna has kidnapped and killed several hostages in the past, including 12 Nepali workers and several Iraqi Kurds it said were "spies."
