Pentagon officials in Washington said earlier today that US and British warplanes bombed air-defence targets in a no-fly zone in southern Iraq in a continuing campaign against Baghdad's air defences.
They said the jets struck anti-aircraft gun emplacements at two sites southeast of Baghdad at approximately 12.20 p.m. and that all aircraft returned safely to their bases.
