DUBAI - Iraq gave the go ahead for UN weapons inspectors to search a military site late last night after a 12 hour standoff, a spokesman for the UN Special Commission (Unscom) on disarming Iraq said from Baghdad.

Unscom said earlier that 40 inspectors had been prevented from entering a presidential guards training facility southeast of Baghdad. The experts then surrounded the site in case any material was removed.

It was the second showdown in the past three days. On Friday the inspectors were barred from searching the irrigation ministry in Baghdad for 18 hours before finally giving way.
