TEHRAN - International aid to survivors of the earthquake which left 50,000 people homeless in eastern Iran trickled in as Tehran said rescue work had ended and announced plans to start rebuilding 200 quake-stricken villages.
Planes from Azerbaijan, Jordan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Turkey and Syria landed yesterday in Mashhad, capital of quake-hit Khorasan province, with 130 tonnes of emergency aid and food, state-run Tehran radio said this morning.
Iran has revised downward casualty figures, saying the latest figures were 1,560 dead and 2,810 injured. An official said earlier reports of 2,400 dead and 6,000 injured were inaccurate.
