A coroner yesterday condemned the "cowardly" killing of a butcher as he worked in his shop in a Northern Ireland village. Trelford Withers became the IRA's last victim before the ceasefire was declared in August 1994.
The coroner for Greater Belfast, Mr John Leckey, said the killing of the part time Royal Irish Regiment soldier by a lone gunman was "a despicable and cowardly action".
The murder took place 23 days before the IRA called a ceasefire.
