The recent spell of fine weather will gradually recede over the Easter weekend but although a little cooler, it is likely to remain dry ... most of the time.
Met Eireann say some showers can be expected on Sunday with temperatures falling but in general things look good for outdoor activities this long weekend.
But the Minister of State at the Department of Communications Marine and Natural Resources, Mr John Browne is reminding those visiting wooded areas to "be aware of the potential dangers of the careless disposal of cigarette ends and matches and be extra careful if planning barbecues or picnics".
The Irish Water Safety Association also issued a reminder today of the dangers attached to water pursuits. "Water temperatures are still cold and swimmers are cautioned that their bodies are not acclimatized," chairman Mr Frank Nolan said.
The association is reminding people not to enter the water after drinking alcohol and is asking sailors to check their lifejackets.
As always there is a busy programme of sport this weekend, with the National League Football semi-finals at Croke Park on Sunday, beginning at 2 p.m. and the three-say Easter racing festival at Fairyhouse beginning on Sunday. The highlight will be the Grand National on Easter Monday.
There will also be a three-day meeting at Mallow begining on Saturday and any amount of rugby, Gaelic games and a full programme of National League soccer.
Bus Eireann will be running a special service from Dublin for the Fairyhouse meeting and say some routes will be curtailed and is advising travellers to check with local depots or use their Website to check details. Despite the curtailment the company says it will carry over 100,00 passengers this weekend.
The Garda are advising road users to be particularly vigilant this weekend and are warning they will be "out in force". They are reminding drivers of the dangers of drinking and driving and that anyone caught speeding will to the penalty points system.
