An inquest into the deaths of three young Dublin men who died when the car in which they were travelling plunged into the Grand Canal was adjourned at Dublin City Coroner's Court yesterday to hear evidence from the only survivor of the incident, and a fireman who helped remove the bodies from the vehicle.
Mr Emmett Finn (17) and Mr Alan Finn (15) both of 60 Rockfield Drive, Clondalkin, and Mr Christopher McHugh (20) of 58 Oak Downs, Clondalkin, were pronounced dead at St James's Hospital shortly after the incident on January 1st last.
A solicitor representing the families sought the adjournment to hear evidence from Mr Daniel Garland who was pulled from the vehicle alive and Mr John Duff, a fireman, who was at the scene.
The inquest heard the car in which the three men were travelling was driven at a high speed along Davitt Road before it went into the canal at Griffith Bridge about 5.15 a.m. on New Year's Day.
The inquest was adjourned for mention on June 15th.
