An inquest was held yesterday at Limerick Regional Hospital into the death of Mrs Nadegda Golovanova, (54), a Moscow teacher, who died following a traffic accident at Gouig, near Castleconnell, on the main Limerick Dublin road early on Saturday.

Mrs Golovanova had been visiting her married daughter, a university student in Dublin, and was travelling to Shannon with two Russian women to catch a flight to Moscow. Gardai said the car in which she was a passenger skidded on an icy surface and collided with a van.

Meanwhile, the RUC is checking reports that a car being driven on the wrong side of the road on the MI near Portadown, Co Armagh, on Saturday night may have caused a fatal collision.

Mr Samuel Mclvor (20), from Finney Lane, Sandholes near Cookstown, Co Tyrone, and Ms Elizabeth Allen (74), from Killyman Road, Dungannon, Co Tyrone, were killed in the crash.
