Lawrence Dallaglio's place on the British and Irish Lions tour to Australia is under a cloud amid growing fears that his injured knee is more seriously damaged than at first thought, reports said today.
The England international No.8 underwent a scan on his knee yesterday which indicated he may have suffered a medial ligament tear instead of a strain.
Dallaglio damaged the knee during Wasps' defeat to Bath in the English Premiership playoffs on Sunday. The Timesand Daily Mailboth reported that yesterday's scan revealed no cruciate ligament damage but said doctors were concerned they could not see the player's medial ligament.
Dallaglio, (28), will now wait for the swelling to go down before undergoing a second scan.Lions manager Donal Lenihan told the Daily MailDallaglio would undergo a second scan today.
"Lawrence's medical team are looking at the injury and we will get a proper appraisal tomorrow," Lenihan said. "It's always a concern when a player gets injured, especially so close to the tour.
"But at this stage there is no point speculating," he added.
Wasps director of rugby Nigel Melville confirmed Dallaglio needed to have a further scan.
"We are waiting to have the knee re-scanned before we know where we are. Because of the swelling we cannot see if there is real damage. It is a concern for Lawrence because the Lions tour is only three weeks away," he said. AFP
