More than 150 residents of the Poppintree area of Ballymun, held an anti drugs meeting in St Joseph's school hall last night, reports Nuala Haughey.

Mr Brendan Kenny, Dublin Corporation's chief area officer, urged residents to provide confidential information about alleged dealers to help secure court evictions. He said the corporation hoped to work with residents associations in the area to prevent known dealers being housed there. He told the meeting that it was the corporation's policy not to re house people evicted for anti social behaviour in Dublin.

Insp Gabriel McIntyre, from Santry station, responding to criticism about the Garda response to the drug problem to date, said efforts would be made to tackle it "head on". Garda members would be calling to every home in the area over the coming weeks and circulating leaflets, he said.
