JAKARTA - An independent Indonesian election monitoring group said yesterday that national polls this week would not be fair because they favoured the ruling Golkar party.
Asked at a news conference whether the election process was free and fair, Mr Mulyana Kusumah, secretary general of the Indonesian Election Monitoring Committee, replied: "No". Nearly 125 million Indonesians are eligible to vote on Thursday for 425 elected seats in the House of Representatives. The other 75 seats are reserved for the military which does not vote.
