Man charged with killing Latvian (32)

A 34-year-old man is due to appear in court today charged with the murder of a Latvian man in Co Tipperary earlier this year, writes Kathryn Hayes.

The body of Renars Tuleiko (32) was found in a field outside Thurles on the night of April 15th last with stab wounds.

Supt Tony Cogan, Thurles Garda Station, who led the investigation into the death confirmed the court appearance. The man is due to appear before Limerick District Court this morning and will be the second person charged in connection with the death of the Latvian man.

Last month a mother-of-two appeared in court charged with assault.

Victoria Moverley, formerly of Mount George, Borrisoleigh, Co Tipperary is charged with assaulting Mr Tuleiko in April.

Men appear over stabbing death

Three men have appeared in court in relation to the killing of Paul Keegan (42) in Walkinstown, Dublin last week.

One man appeared before the Dublin District Court on Friday and was remanded to appear before the same court next Friday, December 21st.

The other two men also appeared before sittings of Dublin District Court over the weekend, a Garda spokesman said.

Mr Keegan, a father of two, was stabbed in a laneway off Beechfield Road in Walksinstown on the night of Monday December 10th. He died a short time afterwards at St James's Hospital.

Charges over stabbing of gardaí

A 39-year-old man was charged last night in relation to an incident in which two gardaí were stabbed in Co Cavan on Friday night.

One of the officers was treated at Cavan General Hospital for abdominal injuries which he suffered while responding to a domestic incident in Dungimmon, Mountnugent at about 8pm on Friday. His colleague received injuries to his thigh, but neither garda's injuries were life-threatening.

Gun charges after PSNI searches

A 28-year-old man is facing a weapons charge in Northern Ireland following a police operation against dissident republican paramilitaries.

The man will appear before magistrates in Belfast today charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life.

The charges relate to eight searches which were conducted on Friday in west Belfast and Co Fermanangh by members of the Police Service of Northern Ireland's serious crime department with the help of uniformed officers.

A man and woman who were also arrested were released without charge.

The PSNI said charges would be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

Pipe bomb defused

British Army bomb disposal experts have defused a "viable" pipe bomb thrown at a police station in Northern Ireland.

The device was thrown at Strabane police station in Co Tyrone shortly before midnight on Saturday.

The pipe bomb landed near the station's gates in Bowling Green. Police have appealed for information.
