Man in court for burglary of widow's house
Simon McGinley (34), Latlurcan Court, Monaghan, appeared before the Cloverhill District Court yesterday in connection with the burglary of the house of an 86-year-old widow and the theft of €64 on the night of June 15th last.
He was remanded in custody to appear again at the same court on August 20th, where he is expected to face more serious charges.
Mr McGinley is being held in isolation at Cloverhill Prison for his own security.
Two remanded on gun charges
Two men charged with having a gun and ammunition in Dundalk were remanded until October by the Special Criminal Court yesterday.
Thomas Kelly (26), Killinarden Estate, Tallaght, Dublin 24, and Eugene Kelly (42), Ashling Park, Cox's Demesne, Dundalk, Co Louth, are charged with possession of a 9mm Glock model 26 semi-automatic pistol and 50 rounds of 9mm calibre ammunition at Castletown Rd, Dundalk, on Saturday last, July 19th.
Mr Kelly is also charged with membership of an illegal organisation styling itself the Irish National Liberation Organisation, otherwise the INLA, on the same date.
Paedophile bailed to get treatment
A WEXFORD paedophile has been remanded on bail for five months to allow him to get treatment at the Granada Institute on the condition that he stay away from schools or anywhere that children congregate.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was convicted for a sexual assault against a young male in 2000. He received a suspended sentence at the time, on the condition that he complete a number of conditions, one of which was seeking treatment.
Wexford District Court heard the defendant had made appointments with the institute but had broken several of them.The court heard that his file at the institute would be closed if he broke another appointment.
Father sold drugs to buy flat
A father who agreed to sell over €10,000 worth of cannabis to try and raise a deposit for a flat so that he could get custody of his daughter has been jailed by Judge Desmond Hogan at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Jude Sherlock (36) and his partner lived in their car for two months before Sherlock agreed to sell the drugs in the hope of getting a flat.
Boy (17) pleads guilty to assault
A 17-YEAR-OLD boy has been remanded on bail pending sentence at the Dublin Children's Court for taking part in an unprovoked attack where a man (49) was "tackled" to the ground and repeatedly kicked in the head.
The teenager yesterday pleaded guilty to assault causing harm at Cabra Road, Dublin, last October 20th.
