Man's body recovered from Clare river
The body of a man has been recovered from the river Fergus in Ennis, Co Clare. Although not formally identified last night, it is believed the remains are those of Przemyslaw Jablonski (31), missing since he went for a swim in the swollen river last Wednesday night.
Alcohol and drugs led to death
An overnight trip to Dublin to see a gig turned to tragedy for four friends when one of the party died after taking drugs and alcohol, an inquest heard yesterday.
Stuart Holman (26), of Ballygunner More, Waterford, was rushed to the Mater hospital on the morning of April 1st, 2007, after a friend found he was unable to wake him, Dublin City Coroner's Court heard.
A toxicology screening found that Mr Holman died from the combination of alcohol, sedative drugs, and heroin, all of which were found in low levels.
A verdict of death by misadventure was recorded.
Semtex used in attack on PSNI
It has emerged that dissident republicans who launched a home-made rocket propelled grenade-type device at an PSNI patrol in Lisnaskea, Co Fermanagh, last Saturday night used semtex in the attack.
The Czech-made explosive has not been used in Northern Ireland since the Provisional IRA ceased their armed campaign.
Spate of thefts from marinas
Gardaí have appealed for help in tracing a speedboat stolen from Banagher in Co Offaly at the weekend. The incident is the latest in an unusually high number of thefts from marinas on the Shannon this year.
The €65,000 speedboat, a Supra Launch 22 SSV, is believed to have been stolen along with its trailer in the early hours of yesterday.
GAA club robbed in Gweedore
A remote rural GAA club has been robbed of up to €20,000 in a break-in. Gardaí were yesterday investigating the theft at Gweedore GAA Club in Co Donegal. The perpetrators forced their way in some time between lunchtime on Sunday and early yesterday.
Funeral of former Cork mayor
The funeral Mass of former lord mayor of Cork Frank Nash (66) has taken place at St Joseph's Church in Mayfield, in the city.
Mr Nash was a Labour councillor in Cork from 1979 to 1999 and was lord mayor from 1990-91.
