Danish claim threat to embassy staff

COPENHAGEN - Denmark has moved staff from its embassies in Algeria and Afghanistan to secret safe locations because of an imminent threat, foreign ministry officials said yesterday.

"There was a change in the security situation and we decided that it was necessary due to the situation locally," said Erik Laursen, a spokesman for the ministry, who added the decision was based on new intelligence. - (Reuters)

Failed bombers lose appeal bid

LONDON - Four men serving at least 40 years for planning the failed July 21st London suicide bombings failed today in a Court of Appeal bid to challenge their convictions. Three judges in London dismissed applications brought by Muktar Said Ibrahim, Yassin Omar, Ramzi Mohammed and Hussain Osman for leave to appeal. - (PA)

Treaty approved by Portugal

LISBON - Portugal's parliament yesterday approved the European Union reform treaty which was signed by the 27-nation bloc in Lisbon during the country's EU presidency last year.

The treaty still needs to be ratified by Portugal's President Anibal Cavaco Silva. - (Reuters)

First execution since court ruling

ATLANTA - The US state of Georgia has scheduled the execution of a convicted murderer on May 6th or soon afterward, in what will likely be the first use of lethal injection since a US supreme court ruling that ended an effective moratorium on capital punishment. - (Reuters)
