Gunmen kill party officials in Lebanon
BEIRUT- Gunmen shot dead two local officials of a Christian party that is a member of Lebanon's ruling anti-Syrian coalition in eastern Lebanon yesterday, security sources said.
They said three other people, all members of the Phalange Party, were wounded in the shooting in the Christian town of Zahle in the Bekaa Valley.
The two dead were identified as Nasri Marouni and Salim Assi.

Another teenage death in Bridgend
LONDON- Welsh police are investigating the death of a teenager in Bridgend, an area that has suffered a spate of suicides among young people, South Wales police said yesterday.
"We can confirm the death of a 19-year-old male, who was found at 7.30am this morning in the Bettws area of Bridgend," a police spokesman said in a statement.
"There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and an investigation is under way." Prior to yesterday, 18 people under the age of 27 had reportedly killed themselves in the Bridgend area since the start of last year.

Opposition ahead in Paraguay poll
ASUNCION- Exit polls among voters in Paraguay's election showed opposition candidate Fernando Lugo narrowly winning the presidency, according to data released by three pollsters last night.
A center-left former Roman Catholic bishop, Mr Lugo was winning between 41 per cent and 43 per cent of votes, ahead of ruling party candidate Blanca Ovelar, who was shown capturing between 36 per cent and 38 per cent of votes.

Six Hamas militants killed
JERUSALEM- Israel launched several air strikes on Gaza over the weekend after Hamas suicide bombers broke out of the besieged coastal strip in cars laden with explosives.
Six Hamas militants were killed in four Israeli air raids, which began Saturday afternoon and continued until early yesterday morning, following an attack by the Islamist group on Gaza's perimeter, which wounded 13 soldiers.
