North prisoner may appeal Easter lily ban
A republican prisoner may appeal after yesterday losing a Belfast High Court bid to overturn a ban on the wearing of Easter lilies within Maghaberry jail.
Christopher Donaldson, who is being held in a separated regime at the prison near Lisburn, Co Antrim, challenged the prohibition on the emblem being worn outside his cell.
His legal action was also fuelled by disciplinary proceedings being taken against him for refusing to remove the lily on Easter Sunday last month.
Waste firms fight restrictions
A formal complaint over the decision by Dublin's four local authorities to restrict waste collection by private firms has been lodged with the Competition Authority by Dublin's second-largest private waste operator.
City Bin Co has accused the local authorities of "abusing their dominant position and of attempting to limit or control the waste market". It claims the councils are breaking the Competition Act and is seeking the authority's immediate intervention.
Garda release three men
Three men arrested in connection with dissident republican activities in Co Donegal were released last night and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The men, understood to be from Co Tyrone, were arrested in Co Donegal on Tuesday night.
Two were questioned at Letterkenny Garda station and the other at Milford station.
All three were released last night.
Further searches are due to be carried out in the Raphoe area today after the discovery of what gardaí believe to be a dissident republican bomb-making factory in the area on Thursday night.
