Call for special NI taskforce

Sinn Féin and the SDLP have supported calls from the family of a murder victim for a special police "taskforce" to combat anti-social behaviour in areas of west Belfast. Frank McGreevy, a former republican prisoner, died on Tuesday after being beaten in his flat at Ross Street on Saturday.

At a vigil on Tuesday evening, his sister, Elizabeth McCartan called for the community to organise itself against what she called "an evil in our society."

The SDLP's Alex Attwood MLA said the party would meet police to discuss the investigation. "We agree with the calls [for]a west Belfast crime taskforce. The level of risk is so great that the police leadership needs to get involved."
