Vietnam's PM in Dublin for short visit
The prime minister of Vietnam, Nguyen Tan Dung, arrived in Dublin last night for a two-day visit to Ireland.
Vietnam is one of nine states selected as programme countries by Irish Aid, the Government's overseas development division. Last year the southeast Asian country received €19.4 million in bilateral aid from Ireland.
Mr Dung will visit UCD this morning where he will be greeted by Dr Hugh Brady, president of UCD, and the Minister of State for Overseas Development, Micheál Kitt
Garda cars hit during chase
A number of cars were damaged in a ramming incident in Donegal yesterday.
A car that was driving erratically on Arranmore Island was met off the ferry by gardaí but the black Honda Civic failed to stop. A Garda car en route to the scene was rammed and extensively damaged.
The vehicle was pursued by a second Garda vehicle and crashed about a mile away on the road to Kincasslagh. A second Garda vehicle was also damaged.
The three occupants of the car were removed to Letterkenny General Hospital.
Woman hurt in Cork assault
Gardaí in Cork have expressed concern after a 21-year-old woman was attacked by a man as she walked home in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The woman was walking alone when she was attacked by a male at Clarke's Bridge near the Social Welfare Office in Cork city shortly before 4am. The man came up behind her and struck her. She was badly shaken.
EU award for tracker ad
The advertising campaign by the Financial Regulator has won an EU award for the promotion of consumer rights.
The "It's your money" campaign, featuring bus passengers who stand up and admit "I don't know what a tracker mortgage is!", was already chosen as the best Irish consumer information campaign. Today it gets the award for best EU financial information for consumers.
