Donegal man found not guilty of rape

A Donegal man has been found not guilty of raping a teenage girl in his car more than three years ago.

A jury in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court found him not guilty of falsely imprisoning the girl, threatening to kill her and raping her on August 25th, 2004.

Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy discharged the 26- year-old man. During his six- day trial, he said he had consensual intercourse with the girl in his car after she made the first sexual advances. He did not know she was aged 14 at the time.

€3.3m hospital award for boy

A boy with cerebral palsy has secured €3.3 million in settlement of a High Court action alleging negligence in the circumstances of his birth at Dublin's Rotunda Hospital. The settlement for Josh Fogarty (4) is without admission of liability.

Josh, who was born at the Rotunda hospital on July 29th, 2003, is "completely helpless and dependent" and will remain so for the rest of his life, the court heard.

Man remanded on further bail

The High Court has granted bail to a Co Louth man wanted in Lithuania in connection with an alleged attempt to buy guns and ammunition.

Brendan McGuigan (28), New Houses, Knocknagoran, Omeath, is being sought by the Lithuanian authorities who allege he and others went to Lithuania in August 2007 and attempted to buy firearms, ammunition and explosive devices there.

Man ran male prostitutes

A man has admitted to running a male prostitution service in Dublin almost three years ago. Eugene Leach (48), St Donogh's Road, Donaghmede, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to controlling or directing the activities of the prostitutes between May and July 2005. Judge Martin Nolan remanded Leach on bail to December.

13 years on drugs charges

A Dublin man who rented an apartment to prepare heroin for sale has been sentenced to 13 years in jail after he also was caught with a loaded pistol.

Trevor Brunton (25), Broombridge Road, Cabra, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of the gun at a nightclub in the Spawell Hotel, possession of the heroin worth €159,361 for sale or supply and possession of ammunition in December 2006.

Six years for cannabis in car

A man who was found to have cannabis resin worth almost €200,000 in the boot of his car after he was caught driving dangerously has been jailed for six years by Judge Martin Nolan.

Edwin Bewley (27), Druid Court, Ballymun pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal to possession of the drugs for sale or supply in February 2007.
