Dispute between Cork solicitors adjourned
The High Court in Dublin has adjourned for a week proceedings brought by two solicitors against another partner in their firm in Cork.
Saundra McNally and Bernice Campbell of Foley, McNally, Goldberg of Pope’s Quay, Cork, had last Monday in the High Court in Cork secured a temporary order against Deirdre Foley, restraining her from carrying out any dealings or otherwise in relation to the firm’s bank accounts at AIB and Ulster Bank, Patrick Street, Cork.
The order also restrains Ms Foley from doing anything which would affect goodwill towards the partnership.
Ms Justice Mary Laffoy yesterday adjourned the matter for a week after she was told Ms Foley had asked for the adjournment and the plaintiffs had consented.
Woman punched welfare officer
A woman has been given a five-month suspended sentence at Galway District Court for assaulting a social welfare officer.
Simfumeme Yante (32), Loughrea, pleaded guilty to punching a social welfare officer in the social services office on Newcastle Road last April.
Det Insp Pat McHugh said staff called gardaí after Ms Yante had arrived at the office in a very aggressive state.
African film festival in Carlow
EastEnders star Rudolf Walker will officially open an African film festival in Carlow town tonight.
Walker (70), who plays Patrick Trueman in BBC’1s EastEnders, became one of the first black actors to make a career in film in Britain and has become the leading patron of the Carlow festival.
The festival, now in its fifth year, will include films from Ghana, South Africa and Ethiopia.
