Detectives get life in jail for Mafia murders
NEW YORK – Two retired New York detectives were sentenced to life in prison yesterday after being convicted of murdering for the Mafia.
Former detectives Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa were sentenced in Brooklyn federal court after they were convicted in 2006 of working for New York’s Luchese crime family when they worked for the city’s police department. – (Reuters)
Fritzl ‘expects to die behind bars’
VIENNA – The Austrian father who raped his daughter and had seven children by her expects to die behind bars, his lawyer said yesterday.
Rudolf Mayer said Josef Fritzl (73) – who goes on trial on March 16th – has no expectations of being freed.
But Mr Mayer insisted Fritzl was “no sex monster” and loved his daughter “in his own way”. – (AP)
Assault charge for Winehouse
LONDON – Amy Winehouse has been charged with common assault over an incident at a charity ball, British police said yesterday.
The 25-year-old singer is accused of assaulting a woman in Berkeley Square, Westminster, on September 26th. – (PA)
Craigslist sued over ‘erotic’ ads
ILLINOIS – Website phenomenon Craigslist is facing legal action over claims it has created “the largest source of prostitution” in the US.
A sheriff from Cook county, Illinois, has filed a case against the online classified advertiser, alleging its “erotic services” section allows for the promotion of sex for sale. – (PA)
