Two die on roads over weekend
Two people have died over the weekend on roads in the Republic, one in Co Sligo and the other in Co Galway.
A 28-year-old man died following a single-vehicle crash in the Co Galway incident.
The crash happened some time between midnight and 3am on Sunday morning at Ballinahown, Rossavil.
The man, who is not being named until relatives are informed, was fatally injured when the car he was driving struck a water-pump house.
A postmortem is due to be carried out later today at Galway University Hospital.
In the other incident, a 59-year-old male pedestrian was fatally injured when hit by a vehicle at 7.20pm at Sooey, Co Sligo, on Saturday evening.
File for DPP in murder inquiry
A man in his 20s who was being held in connection with the murder of Cork stonemason Eddie Gallagher was released without charge over the weekend.
A file is to prepared for the DPP.
The man was arrested at his home on the northside of Cork on Friday and was being detained at Bridewell Garda station in the city. He was released from custody late on Saturday night.
Mr Gallagher (27) died at Cork University Hospital after he was stabbed in Friars Walk on the southside of Cork city on February 15th last.
Drugs seized in Garda raid
Heroin and cocaine worth €75,000 were seized during a Garda raid. The drugs were uncovered at the weekend in a house in Dunard Park, Navan Road, in north Dublin.
The haul has been sent for forensic examination, with the heroin estimated to have a street value of €70,000.
"No one was arrested during the incident and the investigation is ongoing," said a Garda spokesman. – (PA)
