Garda inquiry into death of motorist
Gardaí in Bray, Co Wicklow, are investigating a single-vehicle traffic incident in the county early on Saturday. A male driver in his 20s was killed when the car he was driving left the road just after 6am at the Glencree Reconciliation Centre, Military Road, Glencree.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and was removed to Loughlinstown hospital, Dublin. The deceased man was a foreign national.
A man in his mid-twenties, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to St Vincent’s hospital, Dublin, with serious injuries.

Compulsory purchase orders for new road project still awaited
It could take another three or four years before a number of major road projects, costing an estimated €40 million, to alleviate traffic congestion in Killaloe and Ballina, are fully completed, a local senior engineer has confirmed.
The long-awaited new Shannon River Crossing linking Killaloe and Ballina, the Killaloe bypass and the upgrading of the Ballina to Birdhill regional road, is still awaiting approval from the Department of the Environment to sanction compulsory purchase orders for land acquisition.
Once the CPO approval has been secured, senior executive engineer Tom Tiernan predicts the project should be finished within three to four years. He says the environmental impact statement is substantially finished.
Man injured in Armagh assault
A man suffered serious head injuries after he was assaulted near a river in Armagh.
The victim, aged 20, was reported to police shortly after 6am yesterday and was discovered at Ballinahone Avenue.
He was taken to hospital.
Detectives are still trying to establish the circumstances and have appealed for anybody with information to contact them.
