Carey sees bright future for Irish

The future for the Irish language has never looked better, Minister for Gaeltacht Affairs Pat Carey has said.

He was speaking during a visit at the weekend to this year’s Oireachtas festival for Irish language-related events, which was held in Killarney for the first time since 1918.

Man in hospital after assault in Newbridge

A man in his 20s was being treated for serious head injuries last night following an assault on him and two friends at Strandhouse Road, Newbridge, Co Kildare, early yesterday.

The three men were assaulted at 3.20am by a group of up to six males, part of a larger group which also included females. One of the men was in intensive care at Naas General Hospital.
