US Supreme Court rules on life sentences
WASHINGTON – The US Supreme Court has ruled that it is unconstitutional to sentence juveniles to life in prison without parole for crimes other than murder.
The court ruled yesterday that life imprisonment without parole in such cases violated the constitutional ban on cruel and unusual punishment under the eighth amendment. – (Reuters)

LONDON – A young woman has been remanded in custody after she was charged with attempting to kill Labour MP Stephen Timms. Roshonara Choudhary (21) is accused of stabbing Mr Timms (54), a former minister, as he held a constituency meeting at a community centre on Friday. – (Reuters)
