Carter 'stable' after falling ill on flight
CLEVELAND – Former US president Jimmy Carter was taken to hospital yesterday after developing an upset stomach during a flight to Cleveland but should be able to continue his book-signing tour this week, the Carter Center said.
Mr Carter, who turns 86 on Friday, has been active in international diplomacy since serving as president from 1977 to 1981, particularly intervening on behalf of Americans detained abroad and as an observer of foreign elections.
"He is resting comfortably and is expected to resume his book tour this week," a statement from the Atlanta-based Carter Center said. He had been due to sign copies of his book, White House Diary, at a bookshop in a Cleveland suburb.

Tarantino film editor found dead
LOS ANGELES – Quentin Tarantino’s longtime film editor was found dead in the Hollywood Hills yesterday after going hiking with her dog during the city’s hottest day on record.
Police said the body of Sally Menke (56) was found at the bottom of a hillside near Griffith Park in the centre of Los Angeles. Foul play was not suspected but the cause of death was unclear.
Ms Menke was film editor on every Tarantino movie from Reservoir Dogsin 1992 to Inglourious Basterdsin 2009, which brought her an Oscar nomination. She went hiking on Monday morning and friends alerted police when she failed to return. Her locked car was found in a parking lot and her dog was found alive and near her body, police said. – (Reuters)
