Commentators and comedians for Kilkenny economics festival

Kilkenny city is to host Ireland’s first economics festival in November. Organisers of Kilkenomics described the event as “an attempt to explode the myth that economics is difficult to understand or impossible to come to terms with”.

The event, from November 11th to 14th, will feature “economists and economic thinkers”, including David McWilliams, Constantin Gurdgiev and Brian Lucey; media commentators Olivia O’Leary, Shane Ross and Fintan O’Toole; as well as comedians Karl Spain and Colin Murphy.

Student charged with growing cannabis

A student who came to Ireland to learn English has been charged with growing cannabis plants and opium poppies. Nellie Armories Martin (20), Rohan, Galway, who is from Spain, appeared at Galway District Court yesterday charged with growing the plants on August 31st last. She was remanded on bail to November 8th.
