Russian circus axes fish-swallowing act
SYDNEY – A Russian circus has been forced to cancel an act in which a woman swallows a live fish and regurgitates it after Australian officials deemed it cruel. New South Wales Department of Industry and Investment officials said the trick was in breach of the Animals Protection Act. – (Reuters)
Piers Morgan to take over Larry King TV slot
NEW YORK – British TV host Piers Morgan will replace CNN talk show host Larry King in January, bringing what is expected to be a more acerbic tone to the network’s prime-time interview slot.
CNN said Morgan (45), a former editor of the Daily Mirror, will keep his job on the popular NBC show America’s Got Talent. King (76) announced in June he would end Larry King Live after a 25-year run. – (Reuters)
Poll gives edge to Polish ruling party
WARSAW – Poland’s ruling centrist Civic Platform may win enough seats to govern alone after next year’s parliamentary election, according to an opinion poll published yesterday. The poll gave the party 52 per cent support, up from 48 per cent and well ahead of the 35 per cent seen for its main rival, the right-wing Law and Justice. – (Reuters)
