Keith Troy was an employee of Popeye's Autocare in Mulhuddart village, run by his brother Kenneth Troy from 2005 to 2009. Keith Troy claimed he had commenced employment on €150 per day. However, some months into the job, his brother asked him to accept €30 less. When he later approached his brother for reimbursement, Keith Troy said his brother did not make payment. Keith Troy said in a subsequent phone call that his brother, who did not attend the hearing yesterday, said: "If you want your P45, get your union rep or your solicitor to contact my solicitor." The Employment Appeals Tribunal is to issue its ruling at a later date.

€50,000 for unfair dismissal

A man has been awarded €50,000 for unfair dismissal against the owners of a Co Kerry hotel.
An Employment Appeals Tribunal was told Fionnbar Walsh of Blennerville, Tralee, terminated his contract of employment at the Smerwick Harbour Hotel in April of last year following months of non-payment of wages.

The tribunal said the non-payment of wages had entitled Mr Walsh to terminate his contract of employment. It made the award under the Unfair Dismissals Acts.
