Three in court for imprisoning a man in Cork
Three men have appeared before Cork District Court charged with the false imprisonment of a young man in the city earlier this year, writes Olivia Kelleher.
Shane Ahern (21), Churchfield Green, Cork, Thomas Murphy (41) and James Quilligan (23), both with addresses at Spriggs Road, Cork, were charged yesterday with the false imprisonment of Darren Lenihan at Hollywood Estate, Knocknaheeny on May 13th.
Gardaí made no objection to bail. Judge Tim Lucey remanded all three on bail to appear in court again on September 16th for service of the book of evidence.
A fourth man, Philip Murphy of Killala Gardens, Cork city, was previously charged with the same offence.
When Mr Murphy (40) appeared before the court earlier this year, gardaí told the presiding judge that the charge of false imprisonment was related to an incident on Harbour View Road in Knocknaheeny, Cork city, on May 13th last.
On that date two teenagers, CJ Dolan (16), Hollywood Estate, Blarney Road, and Derry O’Callaghan (19), Killala Gardens, Knocknaheeny, lost their lives in a road collision.
Burst pipe affects water supply
Dublin City Council had to close down a large pipeline providing water to many areas of Dublin yesterday after it burst.
The council said a number of areas were experiencing a reduction in water pressure and, in some cases, a loss of supply. Among the affected areas are Fairview, Clontarf, Killester, Raheny, Artane, Ballymun, Whitehall, Glasnevin and Drumcondra.
Other locations such as James Street, Inchicore, Baggot Street and Kilmainham are also experiencing problems.
“This water main has now being shut down and work is commencing to carry out the repair and this we would hope will be completed overnight,” Dublin City Council said.
“Work is ongoing to supply water to the areas affected by using alternative supplie.”
Two men held over jewellers robbery
Two men were arrested last night in connection with the robbery of a jewellers.
Gardaí say the two men entered Celbridge Jewellers in Celbridge, Co Kildare, at about 4pm yesterday armed with a handgun and a crowbar and demanded cash. The culprits left the jewellers with a sum of cash.
The men, who are in their 30s and 40s, were apprehended after local gardaí on mobile patrol witnessed them running down the street after the robbery. The gardaí recovered a firearm, balaclava and a sum of cash.
The suspects are currently detained under the Provisions of section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 at Leixlip Garda station.
Man arrested after 100,000 drug haul
GARDAÍ in Cork have arrested a man in his twenties following the seizure of €100,000 of drugs during a search of a house in Ballincollig last night.
Cannabis, ecstasy and cocaine were uncovered during the search operation.
The man was brought to Gurranabraher Garda station where he is being held under drug trafficking legislation and can be detained for up to seven days.
