Gay Mitchell to chair mediation conference
Friarylaw is organising a day-long conference to explore the practical framework for mediation in Ireland on Friday March 5th in Trinity College Dublin.
The conference will be chaired by MEP Gay Mitchell, and speakers will include Anne Colley, chair of the Legal Aid Board; President of the Law Reform Commission, Mrs Justice Catherine McGuinness; Irena Vanenkova, director of the International Mediation Institute in The Hague; Noel Rubotham, director of reform in the Courts Service; and Kieran Mulvey, chief executive of the Labour Relations Commission.

Queen's University seminar series
The school of law at Queen’s University Belfast recently launched its seminar series for the spring 2010 semester. Events in March will feature a lecture by Prof Robert McCorquodale, Director of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law.
The school of law's annual workshop is this year is based around the theme of Positive Obligations and the ECHR.

Blood transfusion refusal for debate
The management of mothers who decline blood transfusions are among the issues to be debated at a conference in the Coombe Women and Infants Hospital, Dolphins Barn, Dublin 8, organised by the hospital in conjunction with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Trinity College Dublin on Thursday and Friday next.

Study on the Irish family launched
A joint Family Support Agency/ESRI study, Family Figures: Family Dynamics and Family Types in Ireland, 1986-2006, by Dr Peter Lunn, Prof Tony Fahey and Dr Carmel Hannan, is being launched by Minister for Social and Family Affairs, Mary Hanafin, today.
It covers developments in couple formation, including a comparison of cohabitation and marriage; likelihood of marital breakdown, and lone parenthood. See www.esri.ie.
Asmal Trinity lecture
The inaugural lecture of the Centre for Post-Conflict Justice in Trinity College will be given by Prof Kader Asmal on Thursday February 25th next at 6pm in the Examination Hall. He will speak on the subject: " Post-Conflict Justice: An industry or a Necessity?"
