Gadafy warns of revenge attacks in Europe

TRIPOLI – Muammar Gadafy yesterday threatened to carry out attacks in Europe against “homes, offices, families” unless Nato halts its campaign of air strikes against his regime in Libya.

The Libyan leader, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court over attempting to brutally crush an uprising, delivered the warning in an audio message played to thousands of supporters gathered in the main square of the capital Tripoli.

Fresh evidence in Knox murder case

PERUGIA - Amanda Knox, the US student convicted of killing her English housemate, is thrilled by the forensic report in her favour in her appeals trial this week, her mother told Reuters yesterday.

“Finally the truth is coming out,” Edda Mellas said in an interview, after an independent forensic report on Wednesday discredited police evidence used to help convict her daughter of the 2007 murder.

Court-appointed forensic experts said DNA evidence used in the trial was not reliable and police scientists had made errors. – (Reuters)

New Republican presidential hopeful

WASHINGTON - Thaddeus McCotter, an independent- minded congressman from Michigan, launched a long-shot bid yesterday for the 2012 Republican US presidential nomination.

The conservative from the Detroit suburbs unveiled a campaign website and told a Michigan radio station he would formally announce his candidacy tomorrow.

There are a lot of people out there worried the American dream is in danger, he told WJR radio.

He said other candidates were “fine people” but were not prepared to seize the opportunity and defeat President Barack Obama. – (Reuters)
