Boy (13) faces criminal damage charges at various care facilities
A 13-year-old boy is due in court in Limerick today accused of causing thousands of euro worth of damage at a number of care facilities across the country, writes . The boy, who was in custody at Roxboro Garda station in Limerick last night, is expected to face a number of criminal damage charges. It is understood the charges arise out of separate incidents at various facilities around the country in recent months. Originally from Limerick city, the boy has been in and out of the care of the Health Service Executive since he was eight years old.
Woman died after dune buggy incident
A young woman died in a hospital intensive care unit hours after being thrown from a dune buggy on a scenic beach in north Co Mayo, writes Tom Shiel. She was named locally last evening as Edel Doyle (25), formerly from Enaghbeg, Crossmolina, but more recently living in the seaside village of Killala. Ms Doyle had been a pillion passenger on the buggy which was being driven by a male friend on Lacken Strand at about 2.30pm on Sunday. The driver was said to be in a "serious but stable condition".
Dublin-Chicago service to resume
Tourism Ireland has welcomed a decision by American Airlines to resume its daily flight between Chicago and Dublin.
News of the year-round service, beginning on April 5th, is a major boost to tourism business' reliant on US tourists.
"The US is a key tourism market and the second largest source of visitors for the island of Ireland" said Niall Gibbons, chief executive of Tourism Ireland.
Air access from the US to Ireland is up 6 per cent for summer 2011 in comparison with summer 2010. In total, 115 departures a week from eight US airports will provide 27,241 seats each week - an extra 1,550 seats.
