30 new jobs for Cork five-star hotel

A five-star hotel in Castlemartyr, Co Cork, is to recruit 30 additional members of staff.

The Castlemartyr Resort closed in November 2008, a year after it was formally launched by then taoiseach Bertie Ahern.

It reopened in May 2009, with the board of Dromoland Castle taking it over following the end of an agreement between the Capella brand and the West Paces Hotel Group. The aim was to offer a much more accessible product to the market.

Some 30 full and seasonal part-time jobs are on offer in catering, sales and general hotel management.

Garda appeal after assault on student

A young GAA star is recovering after he was assaulted in a Co Galway town.

The secondary school student (18), who has not been named, was attacked in the Station Road area of Loughrea on St Patrick’s Day, gardaí said.

The student, who has played hurling for Galway, suffered facial injuries in the attack, which took place between 9.30pm and 9.45pm.

Gardaí in Loughrea have issued an appeal for assistance and asked witnesses to telephone 091-841222.
