Gardaí seize €3.5m of drugs at premises in north Dublin
Drugs valued at € 3.5 million were seized by gardaí in north Dublin yesterday, writes Joanne Hunt.
The 400kg of cannabis resin, 50kg of cannabis herb and 8kg of tablets were discovered at business premises near the Malahide Road in Coolock.
It was not known last night whether the tablets were ecstasy.
A man in his 20s was being held at Santry Garda station last night under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.
Gift given to Yeats' 'first lover' sold
A book of poems inscribed by WB Yeats to his "first lover" was sold for $15,000 (€ 10,400) at an auction in New York yesterday.
The volume by William Blake was given to English novelist Olivia Shakespear by the poet in 1896.
Yeats embarked on a short-lived romance with Shakespear in 1896 which ended because, by his own admission, he could not rid the image of Maud Gonne from his mind.
The book was from the estate of Shakespear's grandson, who died last year.
Release of Cloyne report likely in May
The report into allegations of clerical abuse in the Cloyne diocese is now likely to be published in the second week of May,
writes Ronan McGreevy.
Minister for Justice Alan Shatter said the Government had hoped to publish it this week but the recent High Court judgment relating to one chapter in the report had delayed that process.
President of the High Court Mr Justice Kearns ruled last week that publication of a portion of chapter nine, relating to one priest, should be delayed until July 15th.
Army deaths review to last four months
A review into the deaths of three soldiers killed while on UN peacekeeping duty in Lebanon more than 20 years ago is due to be completed within four months after the Minister appointed a senior counsel to oversee the case.
Barrister Frank Callanan will examine the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Cpl Fintan Heneghan, Pte Mannix Armstrong and Pte Thomas Walsh.
