Mass for bikers who died on Irish roads
Relatives of hundreds of motor bike riders who died in crashes on Ireland’s roads are to gather to remember their loved ones at a commemoration in Clones, Co Monaghan, on Friday, May 6th, that will include a Mass at the Sacred Heart Church at 8pm.It is the ninth annual memorial event for bikers who lost their lives.
It will be held for the first time this year in Clones, after previous congregations increased so considerably and an earlier church venue at Aghadrumsee, Co Fermanagh, proved to be too small.
Gaelscoil pupils to learn African drums
Pupils taught through the Irish language attending an all-Irish school at Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, are taking up a novel challenge – to learn the skills and rhythms of African drumming through a series of workshops held in the town.
Tommy McGuire, spokesman for Castleblayney Community Enterprise Centre, which organised the venture, said yesterday: “The whole idea is to bring different cultures together in one community, and we are therefore bringing the African beat to the students, through the medium of Irish, which is a very unique development.”
