Gardaí question man (39) on death of Ballyvaughan woman
Gardaí in Co Clare were last night questioning a man in connection with the violent death of guesthouse worker Deirdre McCarthy, whose body was found washed up on a beach last week. The man (39) was arrested at about 12.30pm yesterday in Galway as hundreds of people gathered in the picturesque village of Ballyvaughan for the funeral of the popular local woman.
The man was arrested after he had been discharged from Galway University Hospital where he was being treated for injuries he sustained in an incident last Friday night. The man was brought to Ennis Garda station for questioning in relation to the death of Ms McCarthy. He is being detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Ms McCarthy’s body was found washed up at Fanore beach in Co Clare last Thursday morning, three days after she was reported missing from her Ballyvaughan home. She was last seen alive on Sunday night, March 27th and the alarm was raised on Monday afternoon. Dozens of locals assisted in a search of the coastline and lands around Ballyvaughan.
Adventure film festival in Killarney
Desert explorer Ripley Davenport and Swedish adventurer Mikael Strandberg are among speakers at the first Killarney adventure film festival, hosted by the Explore Foundation and opening in Co Kerry tomorrow. Belgian adventurer Louis Philippe Loncke is also due at the three-day event.
Ten films selected to define a “generation of adventure enthusiasts” will be screened.
