Man charged over affray in Co Down
A 28-year-old man has been charged with affray and assisting an offender by police investigating a murder in Co Down.
Dmytro Grytsunov (29) suffered a fatal chest wound when shots were fired in the Rooney Park area of Kilkeel, on April 23rd, in what is believed to have been a row between two groups of foreign nationals.
The man charged by police will appear in court in Newry today.
Two arrests have also been made by officers in Dublin who are helping the Police Service of Northern Ireland in connection with the case.
A 27-year-old was arrested by gardaí in the Swords area of north Dublin on Friday night. This followed the arrest of a 22-year-old man on Wednesday who was held when he made inquiries over a passport application at Pearse Street Garda station in central Dublin.
Teenager drowns in Liffey at Clane
A 14-year-old boy drowned in the river Liffey in Co Kildare at the weekend.
Gardaí said the incident occurred near Clane at 6pm on Saturday and was being treated as a tragic accident.
It is understood the teenager got into difficulty while playing in the river with friends. His body was removed to Naas hospital.
Awards to recognise use of social media by companies
The growing importance of social media for Irish businesses has been recognised by Bord Gáis Energy, which confirmed yesterday it will be the headline sponsor of the inaugural Irish Social Media awards taking place at the end of this month in Dublin, writes Conor Pope.
The awards ceremony, to be held in the Mansion House on May 26th, is being run by long-time social media advocate Damien Mulley. It will recognise Irish firms that have used social media in imaginative ways to enhance their brands.
Mr Mulley, who has organised the popular Irish Blog and Web awards, said the idea was "to give everyone an equal chance of having their work highlighted and evaluated".
