THE Irish Medical Organisation is to take legal action against the Government to force it to publish the report of the Buckley review committee on pay and conditions for consultants.

The report was presented to the Minister for Finance five months ago. The IMO claims the Government has breached its obligation under a 1991 agreement to publish the report of the review of the contract which was completed last February.

According to a report in the Irish Medical News, the IMO will take it to the High Court. The IMO president, Mr Hugh Bredin, said the delay in publication was "unprecedented".

A spokeswoman for the Department of Finance said the report was under consideration and the Minister had not yet presented it to the Government. She said no date had been set for its publication.
