If Greece ends up calling on the International Monetary Fund for financial aid, it would damage the European single currency, the euro, Luxembourg's foreign minister Jean Asselborn said today.
Speaking on Deutschlandfunk German radio, Mr Asselborn said if euro zone leaders gave up responsibility to the IMF for the health of a euro zone member, they would be moving from "political psychology" to indulging in "political psychiatry".
Mr Asselborn was speaking as European leaders prepare to meet for a summit in Brussels.
