Swedish furniture retailer Ikea says it plans to lodge a planning application for its new Dublin store with Fingal County Council tomorrow.
The company is seeking permission for to build a store of over 30,000 square metres at the Ballymun Regeneration Zone.
Theresa Daly, Ikea's project manager in Ireland, said today that the company was delighted to reach the stage of planning application this week.
"We believe that our application meets all of the tests of national policy as well as national and local planning guidelines. We have also shown how Ikea would add to the vitality and viability of Ballymun and we look forward to working with the people of that area in developing and operating our store" she said.
The company has rejected accusations that the new Dublin store will lead to chaos on the M50 motorway.
Green Party transport spokesman Eamon Ryan called last month on Ikea not to proceed with the project.
