The chairman of the Limerick county branch of the IFA, Mr Richard Kennedy, was arrested and questioned for over an hour by gardai yesterday after a protest by Limerick sheep farmers outside a city butcher shop over claims it was selling New Zealand lamb. Mr Kennedy said that last week they purchased three legs of lamb at the shop for £22 and established it was of New Zealand origin.

They ordered three boxes of the lamb, which they collected yesterday and, without paying, took it outside to put it on display by way of protest. Gardai took the boxes back into the shop and arrested Mr Kennedy. Gardai confirmed that a file was being sent to the DPP.
