The outgoing president of the Irish Amateur Swimming Association (IASA), Mr Don Barry, has said that the association cannot discuss allegations of sexual impropriety by two former coaches because of legal constraints.
The association, which is holding its annual general meeting in Cork over the weekend, had been scheduled to have a private meeting of the membership last evening. When the meeting convened, Mr Barry informed delegates the IASA executive had received legal advice to the effect that no discussion could take place on the allegations until the findings of the Murphy inquiry into sexual abuse claims had been published. It was expected the report would be before yesterday's closed meeting.
