GAA president Christy Cooney joined mourners in Cork yesterday for the funeral of a popular sportsman who died suddenly following a club training session.
Kieran Hegarty (28) collapsed and died in the dressing room of Shamrocks GAA club near Ringaskiddy on Tuesday.
His team-mates formed a guard of honour and shouldered the casket as his remains were carried from the church in Monkstown yesterday.
Fr Pat O’Donovan said Kieran was well known as a kind, caring, decent and gentle young man. He said there was a sense of bewilderment at his tragic sudden loss.
