A book of condolences for Ken Bigley has been opened in Dublin's Mansion House today.
A spokesman for the Lord Mayor's office told ireland.comthere had been "a constant flow of people through so far." He said hundreds had already signed the book which has been open since 10 a.m.
Mr Bigley was murdered by kidnappers in Iraq last Thursday after three weeks in captivity. He was beheaded despite desperate efforts to secure his release.
The British engineer was granted Irish citizenship at the start of last week in a bid to secure his freedom. His mother, Lil, is originally from Ticknock in Dublin.
The book of condolences will be open until 5 p.m. today and will open between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. tomorrow. The spokesman said it would most likely be passed to the British embassy in Dublin.
In Britain a book of condolence opened in tribute to Mr Bigley was stolen on Saturday, it emerged today.
The book was taken from Birmingham Central Mosque along with a framed photograph of Mr Bigley, candles and some sympathy cards. Earlier this year a book of condolence for the victims of the Madrid bombings was stolen from the same mosque.
