About 500 Egyptians protested in Cairo this afternoon demanding that new military rulers install a new government and lift the country's emergency law.
"The public demands the downfall of the government," the protesters chanted at the revolution's landmark Tahrir Square with banners calling for a technocratic government, and relief for citizens in strife-torn Libya.
A cabinet spokesman said Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq was still consulting on new ministers. Most of the cabinet was appointed by ousted President Hosni Mubarak.
"Our demands are the departure of Ahmed Shafiq and his government, which is considered one of the remnants of the former regime, along with ministers who belong to Mubarak and the corrupt national party," read a note spread by April 6 youth groups in the protest. Other demands included abolishing the emergency law and the trial of Mubarak and his family.
