Mr P. J. Meighan, B.E. the Commissioner, transacted the business at the monthly meeting of the Howth Urban District Council yesterday.
The Surveyor (Mr Higginbotham) said that he had received a large number of complaints regarding the erection of wooden huts, which, it was alleged, were detrimental to the value of adjacent property. In addition, these huts were of a dangerous and inflammable character, and the majority of them were death-traps in case of fire.
The Commissioner said that the Howth estate people should take this matter up, as he understood that they had powers under their leases to prevent this practice.
The Surveyor further reported that the Claremont bathing beach now was ready to be thrown open to the public, and recommended that a beachman should be employed to warn the public of rising tides.
